We are a small team of surfers and trainers who grew up on the Indian coast and spent years studying waves, currents, and the mechanics of paddling. Our work is practical: we watch your sessions, break down your movements, and build training plans around the conditions you actually surf in.
Started surfing the beaches of Odisha and Goa in 2009, then trained with instructors in Bali and Sri Lanka. He leads the video analysis sessions and designs the paddling and balance drills used across all programs. His focus is on helping intermediate surfers build speed and control in inconsistent Indian swells.
Technique & Conditioning CoachA former competitive swimmer who transitioned to surfing in 2014. She handles the land-based conditioning plans, mobility work, and wave-reading workshops. She has coached surfers preparing for regional competitions and works closely with beginners who want to build a solid foundation before moving to advanced maneuvers.
Safety & Oceanography LeadWith a background in marine science, Rohan teaches the safety modules on rip currents, sandbar shifts, and monsoon swell behavior. He maps the local breaks we train at and updates our entry and exit recommendations as the coastline changes through the year.
Video Analyst & Junior CoachIshita films and edits the session footage, then works with Saurabh to break down each surfer's turns, pop-ups, and paddling rhythm. She also runs the weekend clinics for surfers who want to review their progress between scheduled training blocks.
Our story
SurfCoach Pro started in 2016 with two boards, a borrowed jeep, and a simple idea: surfers in India deserved structured training, not just trial and error. What began as weekend clinics on a quiet stretch of coast has grown into a full certification pathway with video analysis, land-based conditioning, and ocean safety workshops.
We ran our first clinics with a handful of intermediate surfers who wanted to fix their pop-up and paddle efficiency. No video gear, just chalk lines on the beach and a lot of repetition. The feedback loop was slow, but the demand was clear.
After borrowing a waterproof camera from a friend, we started recording every session. Reviewing footage of bottom turns and cutbacks changed how our surfers improved. Within a year, video feedback was built into every coaching package, not just the premium tier.
The pandemic pushed us to develop dry-land conditioning plans that surfers could follow without ocean access. We also formalized our safety curriculum, covering rip currents, wave selection, and board choice for Indian beach conditions. These modules became mandatory for all certification levels.
We trained our first batch of local instructors through an internal certification process. Each coach now completes 200 hours of supervised teaching, first aid training, and video review before leading sessions independently. This let us expand to multiple beaches without diluting quality.
Today every surfer gets a personal progress dashboard covering speed, balance, and endurance metrics. We track improvements across sessions and adjust routines based on wave conditions and individual goals. The program now serves surfers from intermediate to advanced levels across the Indian coastline.
Trusted by surf schools and training partners
Our certification program is built alongside established surf schools, ocean safety teams, and equipment partners across India. These are the groups that send us their intermediate riders for technical assessment and video analysis.
A network of independent coaches based along the Odisha coast. They refer students who need structured video review of their bottom turns and cutbacks before competing in regional events.
This school handles beginner intake and sends us their advanced group for paddle-strength testing and wave-reading workshops. Their instructors join our monthly safety drills on rip current identification.
Equipment partner that supplies demo boards for our on-land technique sessions. They use our fit assessments to recommend volume and fin setups for riders preparing for monsoon swells.
A volunteer rescue team that collaborates on our ocean safety modules. Their members co-teach the currents and entry-point sections of our certification workshops.
Urban training group that runs land-based conditioning for surfers who cannot reach the coast daily. We provide their athletes with custom mobility and balance routines between beach trips.
2016 — First season of structured training on the beaches of Kovalam, with a small group of intermediate surfers and a single video camera for technique review.
2018 — We introduced the land-based conditioning block, adding mobility and paddle-strength routines to the in-water sessions. The first group of six completed the full eight-week cycle.
2020 — The wave-reading workshop became a regular part of the curriculum, covering rip currents, sandbar shifts, and board choice for monsoon and post-monsoon swells.
2022 — We launched the video analysis library with more than 120 annotated clips of bottom turns, cutbacks, and paddling technique, used by every enrolled surfer.
2024 — The certification track was formalized: each surfer now completes a written ocean-safety test, a timed paddle assessment, and a filmed maneuver review before receiving the SurfCoach Pro certificate.
2025 — Current season: we are running three training cohorts across two beaches, with a dedicated focus on speed generation and carving consistency for advanced intermediates.
Each stage is built on measurable progress: paddle time, wave count, and video review notes that you can track from the first session.
